Track & Expansion

What are we doing?

When the East Broad Top ceased freight operations in 1956, its entire 33-mile mainline remained intact and is still in place today. Since 1960, only 4.5 miles of the original railroad have been used for excursions, while the other 28 miles have sat dormant. Since acquiring the railroad in 2020, we’ve worked to maintain the current operational mainline and have begun restoring portions of the railroad that haven’t see service in nearly seven decades.

March to Saltillo

Alongside the Friends of the EBT, we’re rebuilding track that has been out of service since 1956. Our immediate goal is to add approximately 9 miles of track to our operation, heading south of Rockhill Furnace to the boroughs of Three Springs and Saltillo.

This ambitious project will eventually allow us to operate a more diverse program of rides and events, bringing the economic benefits of tourism to communities along the EBT’s corridor that were left behind by the loss of coal mining.
